As Tampa flourished in the post-war era, Hayman Jewelry became the destination for families celebrating life's biggest milestones. The 1950's marked a time of elegance and expansion.
Similar to the modern Sears or Service Merchandise, Hayman Jewelry sold appliances, luggage, clock radio's, televisions, refrigerators, and of course jewelry. We carried famous name brand appliances like Sunbeam, Hotpoint, GE, and Dormeyer.
'It's wise and thrifty to buy the appliances you need now,' advises Hayman Jewelry from a two page spread in the Tampa Sunday Tribune of Sunday August 4, 1950.
Solomon Hayman believed that jewelry and appliances were a natural mix. 'Young men bought gold compacts for girlfriends, returned for engagement rings and came back with new wives for washing machines,' he would say.
In 1950, Hayman Jewelry was located on the corner of Franklin Street and Cass Street near Maas Brothers and across from Tampa Theatre. New Tampa wives were coming into the appliance department to get their washing machines, toasters, and irons repaired.
We are on a different corner now in 2026, but trust is still the reason Tampa comes to Hayman Jewelry.
